F.A.Q's.
Q
Will your company sponsor me with a hot head system?
A
We respectfully decline giving away our products. We are proud to offer a trouble free product that pays for itself and then make you money. Please consider investing in reduced engine failures, increased service life, fuel savings and a larger share of purses
Q
I am trying to decide which Hot Head our team needs for a V8 engine. Will the PRO4 heat up my engine?
A
Our PRO 4 system uses a single 110 volt plug. Any engine heating system limited to a single plug will frustrate the user. The power delivered from a single outlet is only enough to work your wife's hair dryer. Our PRO 4 does use a single 110 v plug but it's low-volume, flow-through design produces the most heat of any similar product. We've supplied these to Sprint Car teams and they were returned for our 230 volt PRO models.
Q
What Size generator will I need?
A
Our Jr series products require a minimum of 1500 watts, PRO4 requires 2000 watts and our PRO version requires 3500 watts. Our PRO version works well with a 4000w generator. This unit has dual heating modes, rapid heat and maintain. Rapid uses the full wattage, then can be limited to 1650W to maintain temperature while other electrical equipment is being used.
Q
We are worried about maintenance. What do we need to do to keep the system working?
A
Fortunately we have designed a strong, 6061 series aluminum internal casting that withstands the forces generated from freezing. Our newer systems incorporate inexpensive heating element flanges that act as freeze plugs and can be replaced.
Q
We changed engines and now the unit is not heating
A
Our heating units use a centrifugal pump and requires the impeller housing to be full to create circulation pressure. We supply a simple "purging" routine that is only used initially and coincidentally when air is introduced from a partially filled cooling system. The routine is described on the back of the unit and in the instruction booklet as well.
Q
We had to use stop leak in our cooling system. Will the heating unit and check valve tollerate this?
A
Our systems are designed with dedicated clearance to "pass" rust, corrosion and stop leak products. It is best to flush the residual product from the engine, cooling system and heating unit.
Q
We are preheating our oil and are considering a engine heating system, what's the added benefit?
A
High wattage heating elements in contact with your engine oil is a dated, legacy approach. Rapidly heated oil can burn or "crack"causing engine bearings damage. Think about 6 to 9 quarts of warm oil doing battle with 400+ lbs of engine, radiator and coolant. The temperature of the oil back where you started after traveling through the torturous path taken to get the bearings.
Q
Our team has had let-downs and failures at the track using other, expensive systems. We are looking for a new system and have seen many of yours around. We are concerned about paying less for our next heating system, so what's the difference?
A
Our systems are designed by racers with engineering degrees, while our shops and vendors also thrive in the racing industry. The resulting relations mean that function, durability, appearance and quality are the best. Hot Head products are our sole business so business infrastructure is leaner than our serious competitors. The bottom line is a low cost and high value.
